Cargill Australia

Contracted to Williams River Steel is the construction of an Oilseed Processing facility on Kooragang Island, Newcastle, for Cargill Australia. Operations of the company include oilseed processing, flour milling, grain & oilseed merchandising, cattle feed lotting and meat processing. The company crushes over 600,000 tonnes of canola, Soybean, Sunflower & Cottonseed each year at it's NSW crushing plants and from this they produce vegetable oils for foods such as margarine, salad dressing and frying. The expansion to the Newcastle plant offers Cargill the opportunity to broaden its' local operations into new markets.

Stage 1 of the project, was the roadways and stormwater drainage with stage 2, the 1350sqm main building including the concrete slab floor, supported on over 300 hardwood piles, some of which have been driven to 10 metres deep, due to the site being reclaimed swamp land.

The final stage of the project, being the mezzanine floor which hangs suspended from the roof trusses, the steel pipebridge which stands between the new packaging facility and the oil holding tanks, and the bitumen roadways is now complete and with that, this finalises our contract with Cargill Australia.
